Week of December 5-10, 2010
Exploring the Subtle Body through Tibetan Meditation, Movements and Sounds
Alejandro Chaoul
Wellbeing in the Tibetan tradition is a holistic sense of wellness that encompasses body, energy, and mind. During this week you'll be shown specific methods of meditation to help subdue the monkey mind, as Tibetan texts call the human tendency to run from thought to thought, emotion to emotion, and place to place in search of happiness.
Explore the body’s energetic dimension, or subtle body, composed of channels, the vital breath (lung, prana, or qi) that circulates through them, guided by the subtle aspects of the mind. Led by Alejandro Chaoul, who has taught these practices for over a decade, you'll be shown meditative techniques from the Mother Tantra that bring together the mind and the vital breath, supported by specific body movements called Tsa lung (channels and vital breath practices). These movements relate to the qualities of the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and space) and can help remove physical, mental, and energetic blocks, allowing you to connect to your inner wisdom and potential to achieve a relaxed yet aware state of mind and a healthier lifestyle.
You will also be shown five sacred sounds, called warrior syllables, that, working with the same five chakras, can help you clear your mind, nourish yourself with a needed quality and bring it into the situations of your life where you need them the most, and then share them with others. These warrior syllable sounds together with the five Tsa lung movements are powerful methods that can help you connect to your chakras, clearing gross and subtle obstacles and enhancing your meditative state.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a cushion if you choose to sit on the floor.
