Stoking the Creative Fires: Nine Ways to Rekindle Passion and Imagination
Genius is the power for lighting your own flame. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
What are you on fire about now? Where does your fiery urge to create come from? What do you do to rekindle the inner flame of creativity when it's nearly extinguished by despair or fear? And what are you doing to pass on the torch of your inspiration? These questions are at the heart of one of the greatest human mysteries of all: creativity.
Our emphasis will be the exploration of The Creative Wheel, a mandala-like circle that reveals nine different stages of the creative process and provides a means of visualizing where we are at any given time in a project. We will ask: Where are you on the creative journey? Where are you stuck? Where do you want to be? What are you willing to do to take the next step and then the step after that in order to complete your project?
Through exercises in writing, active imagination, sketching, and observation, and through group discussions of the political and spiritual aspects of art, longtime collaborators writer and filmmaker Phil Cousineau and painter Gregg Chadwick together will share the rich possibilities of "cross learning" among the various arts as a way to find our true voice and deepen our work.
The workshop is designed for all those who are fascinated by the possibility of lifelong creativity, from painters and sculptors, to poets and filmmakers, gardeners, coaches, teachers, and therapists.
Recommended reading: Cousineau, Stoking the Creative Fires, Once and Future Myths, and Wordcatcher.
