Soul Motion™: Crafting Presence

Vinn MartĂ  &  Jeremy Weichsel

"Exploring and playing within the framework of Soul Motion landscapes, we will craft movement scores of presence," write the leaders. "A movement score can act as a lens through which we focus and clarify our movement exploration. It is the alchemist's cauldron, a container within which infinite possibilities await. Traditionally we are trained to view imposed limitations on creativity as a ball and chain. Here limitations, the score, can become wings. We trust these wings, and gently nudge them into the thick air of improvisation.

"Emphasis will be on deepening our capacity to express embodied truths, rather than memorizing or repeating movement material. We will not be asking for mental memorization, but rather physical recall. We will compose movement scores that will be about embodying a feeling, a concern, a flavor. We will track the unfolding mystery within an inspired framework, and honor the experience of crafting presence. We will usher the deep diving that this crafting entails, as well as give dancers the experience and the rapture of presenting their work.

"We are looking for dance students who are ready to dive deep and are open to receiving direction toward that end. Please have a firm foundation in the practice of Soul Motion prior to registration. Performance experience is neither necessary nor desired for this work. Curiosity and an adventurous spirit for the improvisation of presence in the movement moment will suffice handily." Enrollment is limited and hours in session will be expanded.
