How Music Touches the Bodymind: From Bach to the Beatles and Beyond
Music can move us to the heights or depths of emotion. It can lift us out of depression…it can get us dancing to its beat. Music occupies more areas of our brain than language does-humans are a musical species! -Oliver Sacks
This workshop harnesses the astonishing power of music to nurture the body, emotions, mind, and spirit.
Ilana Rubenfeld graduated from the Juilliard School of Music in 1961 with a degree in conducting. She enjoyed a ten-year career in music, conducting until a debilitating back spasm re-orchestrated her life-journey to become a pioneer in the field of bodymind and emotional integration. She called this work the Rubenfeld Synergy Method. After authoring The Listening Hand, she moved from New York City to Ashland, Oregon, and began to actively investigate how music affects health, emotions, body responses, and memories. Ilana will play a variety of musical selections followed by experiential exercises and bodymind exercises. She will demonstrate individual Rubenfeld Synergy sessions with workshop participants and share her Seven Steps for Change. Please feel free to bring your instrument (if you play one) or singing voice to the sessions.
In an atmosphere of caring and healing, be ready to laugh, cry, and have a wonderful time!
